深い友情で結ばれたふたりのかえる「がまくんとかえるくん」。この物語は日本でも小学校の教科書に採用されるなど、シリーズ最初の本が出版されてから半世紀を経た今なお世界中で愛されています。
生みの親であるアメリカの絵本作家アーノルド・ローベル(1933-1987)は、子どもの頃から絵やお話づくりが好きで、絵本作家になることが夢でした。そして、54年の短い生涯を閉じるまでの間に100冊もの絵本を世に送り出しました。
ローベルを日本ではじめて本格的に紹介する本展では、エリック・カール絵本美術館との共同企画により、代表作である「がまくんとかえるくん」のシリーズ全4冊をはじめ、『ふくろうくん』や『ローベルおじさんのどうぶつものがたり』など約30冊の絵本を、貴重な原画や下絵、スケッチなど約200点とともに紹介します。
あわせて、「つみきのいえ」で知られるアニメーション作家の加藤久仁生が、がまくんとかえるくんの日常を描いたアニメーション作品「一日一年」も特別上映します。ユーモラスで温かいローベルの世界を、ぜひお楽しみください。
